As we seek to honor a fallen comrade.
There is much to remember that makes us sad.
But along with the memories that make us weep,
We're reminded in scripture he's not dead but only asleep.
So while we miss him and our heart feels the loss
Remember he's okay---he's alive---
BECAUSE OF THE CROSS.

It was Jesus' cross he carried, while on earth he had a home.
Now the Cross carried him when it was time to pass on.
Brother Ed did not know details of what was ahead.
But he knew for sure he would never be dead.
21 months ago at the hospital he spoke of how it feels.
And with trembling voice he declared to me, Preacher, it's real.

Of all the things I remember about this good man,
I remember the most about his stand.
His stand was not one to be unfaithful.
But on the contrary---humble, reliable, grateful.
Many times, in weakness, to church he would come,
When most would just stay at home.

At Old Pathway we were blessed to have his membership.
Cause with Brother Ed came a real friendship.
As his pastor I'll miss him---more ways than I can sort.
Cause when times were hard---he was there---ready to support.
He had a good name, as in Ecclesiastes 7:1, we've read.
I'm sure that scripture included my friend, Brother Ed.
